“So Delicious We Wanted to Lick the Plate”
Chef Michael was featured in Taste magazine and after reading the review we knew we had to try it. What a wonderful experience! Our waiter knew everything about how the dishes were prepared and made great suggestions. We had a sweet potato gnocchi that was out of this world. It was so light and soft not chewy and doughy as if often the case with gnocchi. The sauce was so delicious that we used the bread to make sure we didn’t leave a speck of it behind. The main course was a like veal marsala but the sauce was better than most. The veal was thin and tender and could not have been better. The panncotta for desert was surrounded with fresh berries that were so good. They were the perfect compliment for the custard. It was a totally trip 5 star meal. I would recommend everyone to try it for a real treat.

“Like Being at Family Dinner”
I come from a large Italian family and read about Ombra’s in one of the magazines that was in our rental unit during our yearly trip down to Hilton Head. The food at Ombra’s was great, it reminded me of my grandmother’s cooking. I had the Veal Scallopine with a half order of gnocchi, something my grandmother used to make. Both were outstanding. The gnocchi was almost as good as grandma’s. The beet salad was one of the best salads that I’ve ever had and would take it over a house salad anywhere else any day of the week. Our waiter was knowledgeable and very helpful when it came to selecting our (went there with my girlfriend)entrees as well as being prompt. I took about half of my food back to the condo and the waiter even included some extra bread. It was great reheated as well. Definitely will put it on our return to list for next year.

Best Italian this side of the Med
Had a superb dinner for two, including fresh mussels, pasta pescatora (frutti di mare), and veal scaloppini with mushrooms. Extensive Italian wine list, with lots of bold reds, super Tuscans, etc. Selected a great Ripasso. Excellent, informed service, superb authentic olive oil, freshest ingredients, limoncello made fresh on site. We lived (and ate) in Italy for two years … this is the best Italian we’ve had since leaving.

“Best Italian food on Hilton Head and probably in South Carolina”
A professional chef we know ate at Ombra and said it was the best Italian meal he had had in years, so we had to go. The food is truly exceptional. If you go you have to try the home made pasta. Portion sizes are good and every thing is perfectly cooked and has great flavor. Last year at this time we were in Venice and eatting at Ombra brought back some very good culinary memories. Make sure you save some room for their excelent deserts.

Opentable Review
WOW – 2nd time dining at Ombra – round 2 was again excellent! Enjoyed appetizers of beef carpaccio & 1/2 portion of a special mushroom & veal ravioli; both were outstanding. Paired our apps with a dee-lish Gavi white wine. Since it was a special occasion we inquired about their corkage fee for a 1998 Sassicaia from our wine cellar & were informed it was a reasonable $15. We only bring wine if it’s not on a restaurant wine list & always order an additional bottle from their list as a gesture of appreciation that corkage is permitted. Our entrees were out of this world fab: Veal Scallopini and excellent pillow-light Gorgonzola Gnocchi. For dessert we enjoyed a pistachio gelato & limoncello Zabaglione; great end to a super dinner celebration!
“Great Food”
I had an incredible meal at OMBRA. I had a chance to go there two times, everything was great, including a gorgeous service. The first dinner I had a very fresh lobster salad, handmade cavatelli with tomato, very authentic Italian cavatelli, and pork chop. The second dinner great: caprese, mozzarella with tomato, a super risotto piemontese, and an incredible medium rare cooked filet mignon, tender and tasty. I do not want to forget the desserts: fantastic, delicate and very Italian taste. Don’t miss OMBRA if you’re in Hilton Head.
